Biography
Dr. Tomokazu Souma is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Nephrology, Department of Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine. After completing his postdoctoral research training at Dr. Susan Quaggin's lab in the Division of Nephrology, Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, he joined Duke Nephrology as a faculty member in 2017. Dr. Souma studies the fundamental mechanisms underlying renal injury and repair using mouse genetics and single-cell transcriptomics approaches. Particularly, he focuses on understanding endogenous cellular stress adaptive pathways to ferroptosis and ferroptotic stress in kidney repair.
